Letter to John Francis Heath, 1841 July 8.

Mentions a troublesome incident at Harvard, now resolved, and meditates on the real of imagined existence of the devil. Speaks about Alfred Tennyson's recent, kind letter and includes a long quote from it concerning two volumes being considered for republication. Does some lighthearted speculation on the future life of Heath and mentions: The Dial, Emerson's Essays, Brownson's Review and Parker's sermon as well as news of various friends: including (James)Lowell and Nat Hubbard. Makes light of his tutor's job at Harvard but admits to spending some serious studying of ancient philosophy and reading Pythagoras, Anaxagoras, andSocrates.
